Aamir A. Rehman
Senior Advisor, UN Development Programme
Aamir A. Rehman is a Senior Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). His work includes supporting UNDP’s strategy on engaging Islamic finance stakeholders and collaborating across the UN system on an approach to financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Islamic finance. UNDP has, to date, partnered with a national Zakah collection agency, a ministry of finance, a commercial Islamic bank, the Islamic Development Bank, and numerous international donors on projects related to the SDGs and Islamic finance.
Mr. Rehman is a partner at Hoopoe Capital, a financial firm based in Princeton, New Jersey. He is also a board member of Fajr Capital Advisors, part of the Fajr Capital Group, and a consultant to the World Bank Group’s Finance and Markets Global Practice. Prior to being a co-founder of Fajr Capital, Mr. Rehman was global head of strategy at HSBC Amanah and a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group.
Mr. Rehman is a senior fellow at the Richman Center for Business, Law, and Public Policy at Columbia Business School. He is author of the books Gulf Capital & Islamic Finance; The Rise of the New Global Players (McGraw-Hill, 2009) and Dubai & Co.: Global Strategies for Doing Business in the Gulf States (McGraw-Hill, 2007). He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
